International SheepDog Society

Function and Purpose

The International Sheep Dog Society was founded in 1906 with the intention of stimulating interest in the shepherd and his calling and to secure the better management of stock by improving the shepherd's dog. This is still the objective today, for without a good working dog the work of the shepherd, both on the hills and the lowlands would be impossible.

One good dog can do the work of a dozen men, as the shepherd is the first to testify. Indeed agriculture the world over owes a tremendous debt to these hard working collies and, all too often perhaps, their efforts and praise remain unsung - but they are never under-estimated!

Read about the dog that this Society is founded upon.

The Society has a formal structure that sets its day-to-day management.

The Society Constitution lays out all the rules but, as usual, these documents are not meant to be light reading!

All the latest and recent news about the Society can be found from the News area of this site.  But there are some occasions and stories, of which we are very proud, to see here.

The Society does have a significant history and celebrated its Centenary in 2006.  You can read an ISDS History that was specially written for that event.
