Many people are becoming interested in sheepdog handling.  Traditionally, it was shepherds and farmers who were the only people skilled to handle the dogs.  Today, you can find doctors, policemen, butchers, lorry drivers and even a vicar who enjoy working with their dog - and some become very good indeed.

It can seem very difficult to get involved.  It is much easier if you have countryside contacts.  But there is now a growing number of sheepdog schools.  The ISDS does not have its own training schemes, but we list several trainers on our Breeders and Trainers page; we know all the people who are listed there.  Choose one near to you and phone up and have a talk.

The group in the picture above are an example of a sheepdog and handler school that took place in North Wales. 

The ISDS is co-ordinating some local UK groups, especially for youngsters.  There are also some colleges that have sheepdog handling courses.  If you live in the UK or Ireland and would like to get in touch with a training scheme please telephone the Bedford office and we will try and help.
